KNITTING
Beginning Knitting with MYS Staff During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $70/4 week sessionNote:  All materials must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio, Ltd.  Beginning Knitting can be taken twice.

Independence Pillow with Emily Hrobsky Independence PillowThis pillow was designed by Michelle Hunter for a KAL. Learn basic cabling, buttonholes, and seaming while making a pillow.

Correcting Mistakes with Darlene JoyceAre you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle?  Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting.  You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row.   The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle.  Please pick up homework sheet or download it here Correcting Mistakes Homework

Wicker Cowl with Kate Joycewicker circleLearn how to knit very simple lace with knit two togethers and yarn overs. Choose any yarn and a 24” circular needle that is 2 sizes larger than what the ball band recommends. She knit a bunch of these for her bridesmaids!

CrayonsCrayons Shawl with Darlene Joyce Pick 6 of your favorite colors of HiKoo Simplicity and learn how to make a shawl using short rows to vary the lines.  A size US 7 24” circular needle required.  Designed by Suvi Simola.

yarnChoosing the Right Yarn & Blocking with Darlene Joyce Learn how to choose the right yarn for any project.  Students will learn how to read yarn labels, how  different fibers behave, how to substitute yarns, how to determine yardage needed and how to make a measureable gauge swatch.  Students will also learn the basics of blocking, including wet blocking, mist blocking and steam blocking and when to use each technique.

Enjoy MichiganEnjoy Michigan with Emily HbrowskyThis welting technique involves slipping stitches.  Each row is worked with only one color!  After you get the hang of it, it is easy!

Lintilla with Darlene JoycelintillaPart of her “Hitchhiker Series”, Martina Belm describes her love for garter stitch and her design, Lintilla. “Most hand-dyed yarns look really fab in it. So I just could not resist to design another little garter stitch shawlette: Lintilla. It comes with a special long and narrow triangular, slightly asymmet- rical construction and a beautiful scalloped, subtly ruffled edge that is really fun to make.”

Metalouse with Darlene JoyceThis pattern combines a self-striping yarn with a solid yarn to create a wonderful effect.  Darlene used Noro’s Shiraito and Schoppel Wolle’s Cashmere Queen (both are cashmere blends) to create the softest, comfiest shawl.  Many combinations are available.  Students will learn make one increases, slip stitches and basic shawl construction.  Designed by Stephen West.

Shoulder Cozy with Kate Joyceshoulder cozyHolding a fuzzy yarn with a smoother yarn, you will learn how to do an “e” cast on and knit garter stitch in the round.  You will need to have a 24” circular needle in a size US 13.  If you need help choosing your yarn, come a little early for class!

Charlotte’s Web Shawl with June SorensenMaie Landra began to knit this shawl in a simple lace pattern, interchanging the colorways.  The pattern is now legendary among knitters.  The shawl uses five different variegated colorways, each one eased into the next.  You may decide to knit some colorways wider than others.  There are many choices.wrapped in color Charlotte's Web

shrugShrug This! with Courtney BuckalewQuite possibly the easiest sweater pattern ever. Using a large needle and a little thicker yarn (or a double strand of yarn), this shrug is done in no time. Courtney will help with sizing this pattern for any body size (baby to woman). Designed by Toni Kayser Weiner. Pattern is available for free. This shrug is perfect for a little summer cover up.

My First Sweater (That Fits) with Darlene Joycemys first sweaterUse Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size. The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types. Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire. In order to allow for knitting time, this class meets every other week.

Socks from the Toe Up with Courtney BuckalewsocksWith the yarn of your choice & some basic foot measurements, Courtney will guide you through the basic calculations & techniques for knitting a sock.  The Turkish Toe does not use short rows like the German method and many knitters find it easier to execute.  Students can opt to use double points or two circular needles.

CROCHETING
Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet with MYS StaffThis class is for crocheters of any skill level.  It is tailored around what you know and what you’d like to learn.  If you’re new to crochet, you’ll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches.  Already know the basics?  Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams.  If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit!  Come prepared with a project of your choosing, and let’s get started.  All yarn must be purchased from MYS.

Exploring Tunisian Crochet with Darlene JoycetunisianbookDuring the morning you will learn the basics of   Tunisian crochet including the anatomy of Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch, abbreviations, etc.  In the afternoon, advanced applications of Tunisian will be explored.  Please ask for a supply list when registering.  Required book:  The New Tunisian Crochet.

Duet for Hooks Vest with Darlene Joyceduets for crochetDesigned by Sheryl Thies.  Learn how to do double-ended Tunisian crochet.  Students must purchase Tunisian Crochet Encore from MYS, sport weight yarn and a size L double-ended Tunisian hook.  (Denise  brand works well)

Using Stitch Dictionaries with Darlene Joycestitch dictionariesLearn how to use a stitch dictionary to plan a scarf, cowl or baby blanket.  Students will learn about yarn  and hook selection, gauge and how to calculate stitch multiples to get the desired size.  Darlene designed the Vibrations Cowl and the Azalea Cowl (see free pattern on page 7) from this book.  Book required:  Basic Crochet Stitch.  Please purchase from MYS.  Bring a variety of hooks.

CLASS POLICIES
Class Materials:
Except when noted, yarns must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials!
Registration:
Registration is required for all classes. 100% of the class fee is due at registration. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard/American Express or use our online secure  shopping cart.  Of course, you can always register in person!
Minimum:
A minimum of three students is required in order for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded.
Balance:
The balance of the class fees is due on the first day of class.
Cancellation:
Store credit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given.
Special Fee Classes:
100% payment is due at the time of registration.
