KNITTING
Beginning Knitting with MYS Staff During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $78/4 week session Note:  All materials must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio, Ltd.  Beginning Knitting can be taken twice.

My First Sweater (That Fits) with Darlene Joycemys first sweaterUse Ann Budd’s book, The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns and the yarn of your choice to make a basic pullover sweater or cardigan in any size.  The set-in-sleeve is flattering to almost all body types.  Couture techniques are taught to refine your knitting repertoire, including measuring your body, adjusting the pattern, paired increases/decreases, selvedge edges, sloped bind off, seaming, and picking up stitches.   In order to allow for knitting time, this class skips some weeks and due to popular opinion, has been extended to be a 5 week class.

Wicker Cowl with Kate Joycewickercowl2Learn how to knit very simple lace with knit two togethers and yarn overs.  Choose any yarn and a 24” circular needle that is 2 sizes larger than what the ball band recommends.  She knit a bunch of these for her bridesmaids!

Holes (a.k.a “Fish Lips”) with Georg LuxtonHolesLearn how to create holes and how to incorporate them into designs.  After the holes are knit, stitches are picked up around the hole to form a border (or “lips”).  Georg will show samples (a shawl and fingerless mitt) that incorporates as a design element.  The holes can be open or filled in.

Choosing the Right Yarn & Blocking  with Darlene JoyceblockingLearn how to choose the right yarn for any project.  Students will learn how to read yarn labels, how  different fibers behave, how to substitute yarns, how to determine yardage needed and how to make a measureable gauge swatch.  Students will also learn the basics of blocking, including wet blocking, mist blocking and steam blocking and when to use each technique.

Continental Knitting (& Purling) with Darlene Joycecontinental knittingLearning continental knitting, sometimes called picking, can help give you options while knitting.  Some knitters find that they can knit more evenly and quickly with this method.   Students will learn both knit and purl stitch.  Additional practice is advised to become proficient.

Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce
Are you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle? Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. Socks from the Toe Up (Turkish Toe) with Courtney BuckalewsocksWith the yarn of your choice & some basic foot measurements, Courtney will guide you through the basic calculations & techniques for knitting a sock.  The Turkish Toe does not use short rows like the German method and many knitters find it easier to execute.  Students can opt to use double points or two circular needles.

With an A-line silhouette and shirt-tail hem, it has subtle lace touches at the neck and sleeves.  The body is worked in the round and the sleeves are set in.  Darlene will help each student make her Folly Cove fit.  Hers is made in Berroco’s  Fuji.  Sizing ranges from 32” to 56” finished chest.  Pattern available In-Store Ravelry.

Tree by Leaf with Courtney Buckalew  treebyleafAn asymmetrical buttoned wrap inspired by Teva Durham’s “gestalt” knitting class, using the natural edges of the charted pattern to inform the shape of the finished garment.Exact gauge is not important, but yarn choice is crucial! Size of one finished leaf motif is given, rather than sts/inch. This will work best in a lofty, super bulky yarn where 9 sts = 4” in stockinette per the ball band.  Pattern includes written instructions for one leaf, as well as a chart for the entire wrap.

Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet with MYS Staff This class is for crocheters of any skill level.  It is tailored around what you know and what you’d like to learn.  If you’re new to crochet, you’ll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches.  Already know the basics?  Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams.  If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit!  Come prepared with a project of your choosing, and let’s get started.  All yarn must be purchased from MYS.

Exploring Tunisian Crochet with Darlene Joyce exploring tunisisanDuring the first half of the class you will learn the basics of Tunisian crochet including the anatomy of Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch, abbreviations, etc.  During the second half, advanced applications of Tunisian will be explored.  Please ask for a supply list when registering.

CLASS POLICIES
Class Materials:
Except when noted, yarns must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials!
Registration:
Registration is required for all classes. 100% of the class fee is due at registration. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard/American Express or use our online secure  shopping cart.  Of course, you can always register in person!
Minimum:
A minimum of three students is required in order for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded.
Balance:
The balance of the class fees is due on the first day of class.
Cancellation:
Store credit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given.
Special Fee Classes:
100% payment is due at the time of registration.
